OPEC+ Moves to Increase April Output
The output hike was confirmed through an official statement posted on the OPEC website, following a review of global supply-demand dynamics by eight participating nations — Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman.
"The eight participating countries decided to resume the unwinding of the 1.65 million barrels per day of additional voluntary adjustments announced in April 2023 and agreed on a production adjustment of 206,000 barrels per day," the statement said. It added that the global economic outlook is steady, and current market fundamentals are healthy, which was reflected in the low oil inventories.
OPEC noted that the full 1.65 million bpd in voluntary output curbs — first introduced in April 2023 and subsequently extended through the close of 2026 — could be unwound either in part or entirely, contingent on shifting market dynamics, with any rollback to be carried out in a phased manner.
The April increase is widely expected to mark the final planned production adjustment by the group for the first quarter of 2026. The eight-nation bloc is set to reconvene on April 5 to determine the next course of action.
Sunday's announcement came against a volatile backdrop, as recent strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran stoked fears of supply disruptions in the region — particularly concerning the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. Analysts broadly anticipated upward pressure on oil prices when markets opened Monday.
